About the Program

The Kitchen to Capital Culinary Workforce Program by The SoLa Foundation is designed for young people who are passionate about food, culture, and making a difference in their community. This hands-on program offers real kitchen training, career-building skills, and an introduction to entrepreneurship in the food industry.

Whether you dream of running a food truck, becoming a chef, or launching your own business, this program will help you build confidence, sharpen your skills, and take the next step toward your goals. No prior experience is needed, just curiosity, commitment, and a love for the flavors that make South Central unique.

  • Module 1: Kitchen Foundations + Food Safety 

  • Module 2: Flavor Building + Food Systems 

  • Module 3: Cooking Methods + Barista Training Begins 

  • Module 4: Baking + Beverage Training 

  • Module 5: Career Readiness + Advanced Culinary Skills 

  • Module 6: Capstone – Café Takeover + Career Launch

Program Times

  • Cohort #1 | October 6 - November 12

  • Monday - Tuesday | 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

  • Wednesday Off-Site | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • This program will offer 8 seperate cohorts (6 weeks each)

Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements

  • Be legally authorized to work in the U.S. (U.S. citizen, permanent resident, DACA recipient, or work permit holder)

  • Commit to attending in-person classes three days a week for the full 6-week program—consistent attendance is essential for completing the training, mentorship, and certification requirements

  • Live in one of these communities: South Los Angeles (District 2), City of Compton, Crenshaw District, Leimert Park, Watts, Florence-Firestone, or L.A. County Supervisorial District 2

  • Curious about culinary arts, cultural food traditions, and community-based food systems
     

  • Willing to show up, grow, and collaborate in a fast-paced kitchen setting
     

  • Interested in building a future as a food entrepreneur, kitchen
    leader, or hospitality professional
