Culinary Program

About the Program

The Kitchen to Capital Culinary Workforce Program by The SoLa Foundation is designed for young people who are passionate about food, culture, and making a difference in their community. This hands-on program offers real kitchen training, career-building skills, and an introduction to entrepreneurship in the food industry as well as a $1300 stipend upon successful completion of the program.

Whether you dream of running a food truck, becoming a chef, or launching your own business, this program will help you build confidence, sharpen your skills, and take the next step toward your goals. No prior experience is needed, just curiosity, commitment, and a love for the flavors that make South Central unique.

  • Module 1: Kitchen Foundations + Food Safety 

  • Module 2: Flavor Building + Food Systems 

  • Module 3: Cooking Methods + Barista Training Begins 

  • Module 4: Baking + Beverage Training 

  • Module 5: Career Readiness + Advanced Culinary Skills 

  • Module 6: Capstone – Café Takeover + Career Launch

Program Times

  • Cohort #1 | October 6 - November 12

  • Monday - Tuesday | 9:00 am - 3:30 pm

  • Wednesday Off-Site | 9:00 am - 5:00 pm

  • This program will offer 7 separate cohorts (6 weeks each)

Eligibility Requirements

Eligibility Requirements

Identification Documents (To verify the participant’s identity). Acceptable documents include:

 

  • California Driver’s License or State ID

​​

  • Student ID (if currently enrolled)

​​

  • Other government-issued photo ID

​

Proof of Residence in LA County. Acceptable documents include:

​

  • Driver’s License or State ID with a current LA County address

​​

  • If the ID does not show the current address: a utility bill (showing participant’s name and LA County address) or another official document confirming LA County residency

​

Work Authorization (only if required by your program). Acceptable documents include:

​

  • Social Security Number (SSN)

​​

  • Individual Taxpayer Identification Number (ITIN)

​​

  • Valid work authorization permit/visa

​​

  • Citizenship documents (if applicable)

​

Additional Eligibility Requirements

  • Must Live In LA County

​​

  • Must be able to attend in person classes 

​​

  • Must be Age 18 +

​​

  • Basic Reading and Math skills

 

  • Complete interview with Chefs

Ideal Participants

  • Curious about culinary arts, cultural food traditions, and community-based food systems
     

  • Willing to show up, grow, and collaborate in a fast-paced kitchen setting
     

  • Interested in building a future as a food entrepreneur, kitchen leader, or hospitality professional
